Surfworks, a local organization started and run by Marin high school students that provides surf experience days to underprivileged youth in Marin, launched their 2nd annual summer surf camp at Stinson Beach Monday July 1st for twelve campers from West Marin. They plan to have a different group of about ten campers for each of the four weeks of July. Through out the school year, these enterprising students conducted fundraisers, sought sponsors and applied for grants to raise the funds to provide equipment, instruction, lunch and transportation for each client. Sponsors include: Surfrider Foundation Marin County, Proof Lab Surf Shop in Mill Valley and 101 Sports in San Rafael, and special thanks to the Youth Leadership Institute in San Francisco for its generous grant.
And you too can pitch in – as you can imagine, several of Surfworks clients have caught the surfing bug and wish to have their own boards. If you happen to have an old board lying around, donate it to Surfworks and they will insure that a deserving youth gets it. Contact Surfworks at – firstname.lastname@example.org
